The water is probably the most important and the backpack itself would be the most useful!
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:40 PM
I think the most important things would be the tent, sleeping bag, and poncho. More people die of exposure than thirst.

Water is the most important thing to have in your storage. It does not matter how much foodn we have if we do not have water to sustain us. Living in area of possible flooding, clean water supply is one of the things that is lost quickly during a flood. Water everywhere but not a drop to drink!!

Water – if you don’t have water you can’t survive. We can go without food, shelter, and even friends (for a short time) – but you can’t live without water!

I definately think the water is the most important think. I bought these kits for my children at Christmas. Much more practical than toys.

Dust masks because those are the items someone is least likely to otherwise have.
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:36 PM
I think water is the most important thing. I would love to win.

I would have to say the most important thing would be anything dealing with water proofing. Here in NC it’s pretty moist and rainy often. Waterproof matches, ponchos and the tent are the biggest plus in my opinion for where we are.

The tent is No.1, you can survive without water for 72 hours.
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:46 PM
Well, up here in MI where I am, I’d say the emergency sleeping bags and other things for heat are the most important. Water would also be pretty important
I think it’s a great kit and would love to win it!

Water is the most important item to me. We cannot live without it. Just having an emergency 72 hour kit is the essential thing.

Water!!! Having sanitary drinking water is sooo important. I think the high-calorie food bar is right up there, too. I have a nursing baby who is dependent on me for nourishment, so I have to keep up my energy and food-intake for her.

Water for an extended emergency, but the first aid kit is great for those everyday little emergencies.

In the middle of certain emergencies or disasters a radio can be of much importance! Realized this during hurricane Ike when everything was gone and a little battery operated radio gave life saving information.

It is never an issue, until you forget the tissue! I have camped and not had any and uncomfortable, messy and gross! Now the I have kids, it would be nightmarish!
July 22nd, 2009 at 9:32 PM
I read once, “In an emergency, sanitation issues are immediate and acute.” I would not want to be without the TP!

I think water is most essential. You cannot live without water. Thirst takes over and then you think you will die, even if you won’t, and it’s mind over matter from there.
July 22nd, 2009 at 10:56 PM
Obviously water is the most important thing but it is really great that you guys have made it EASY to carry and hold all of the essentials to survive.

The thing that I think would be most useful out of this kit is the water. Thank goodness I haven’t had an emergency yet and had to learn though. Thanks for the chance to win something to prepare myself!!
July 23rd, 2009 at 6:39 AM
I think the water and the energy bars are the most important. You need to keep up the energy so you will be able to help your family and others.
July 23rd, 2009 at 7:28 AM
The flashlight would be the most useful to me. I hate the dark!!
July 23rd, 2009 at 7:29 AM

In looking at the list, water jumps out at me as being the most important. The other things are or could be essential, but if you don’t have water you are in dire need.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:55 AM
Would I love to win this!!
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:56 AM
Its all good!! But the water and shelter would be very important to me!
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:00 AM
We need to pay attention to shelter, food and water. But I feel water is the most important.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:30 AM
Water is the most useful and necessary.

The importance of an individual item depends on multiple factors such as season, climate, location and local local WX thus a well equipped kit as a whole should be considered essential.
July 23rd, 2009 at 10:30 AM
I would think the water would be most important but having a well equipped kit would be the most beneficial.
