WATER yep that is what I think I would need the most, but please don’t take the other items out! hahaha
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:16 PM
Of course water. But the toilet paper runs a pretty close race.
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:24 PM
Ya, water. I would die without my water!
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:29 PM
We just went camping and it is a toss up between the water and the toilet paper.
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:40 PM
Water is the most important, I believe – but I’d hate to live without all these items!

I would have to say that the most important item in the 72 hour kit is the toliet paper! Who would ever think to have toliet paper on hand, mother nature will still call when the hard times hit.

After moving to Houston a year (just in time for my first hurricane) I will definitely say the radio. When power goes out you have no clue what is going on. It cracks me up that the news crews are still out there trying to get a good story and the anchors are behind their desks giving updates yet noone is able to watch it. The radio is great to know what other dangers might be coming up and to know when it’s safe. AM/FM will never go away and thank goodness!

Another great item that I can see not wanting to be without is a pocket knife. If you are able to stay in your home during a catstrophe then you’ll be able to have a knife or a screw driver or a bottle opener right at your finger tips. If you are told to leave and you are gonna be gone for a while…having that pocket knife is a convenient way to get multiple tools into one little area and space is a precious thing that you don’t want wasted with things like knives and a tool box.

Finally, the masks. It’s amazing how dirty the air gets after a natural disaster. The air will have debris flying around for a while or the air will be so smoky from all of the burning of fallen down trees that the air quality is so unhealthy you have to stay in. If, however, you have to go out then the mask is a great thing to have for each member of your family (especially children). The last thing you want is for anyone to get sick or to have to see a doctor during a disaster. Keep everyone as healthy as possible.

My choice is water… the rest you can make do with what you have…
July 23rd, 2009 at 3:25 PM
Yes, it would have to be water. But I also am going to vote for Toliet Paper! I think the second wrose experiance I had was when I had forgotten Toliet Paper for a campout. Yuck.

Well, I left my three comments already but I forgot to add my blogsite to complete the requirements for submitting my comments/name for the drawing. It is a private blog so I don’t know how you’ll be able to verify but hopefully it can be done since I have subscribed to the blog and if needed I can send an email to have it verified.

Living in Florida it is very important to have a 72 hour kit. We in the south always need to be ready.

Water, water, water!
July 23rd, 2009 at 4:59 PM
I’d have to go with water. The other items would be nice but wouldn’t get you far if you didn’t have water.

I think having lots of the bottled water is the most necessary. I also think it’s great to have all of these essentials packed up in a kit and ready to go.

All the items are essential and the most important one depends on the emergency and time of year. Overall, though, I would think if I had to leave my house, I would choose the tent. It provides some security and shelter. A close second would be the radio with batteries, of course.

I have re-subscribed to the blog. My “My Yahoo” subscription sometimes has problems, so I have to re-subscribe occasionally.

The radio is something I’ve never gotten around to getting for our emergency preparedness kits, so that would be a great addition!
(But water is still probably the most important. especially for those of us who live in the desert)
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:21 PM
Of course I thought of water at first, but I sure do like having a flashlight when the power goes out. Makes me feel a lot better in a panic situation.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:22 PM
The dust masks. Mostly because I didn’t think to have them and could come in handy for many situations.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:23 PM
I already subscribe!
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:37 PM
I think the radio is great! I don’t have one, so this would really help me become more prepared!
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:47 PM
Something I hadn’t thought of in my homemade kit was the work gloves. Complete BRILLIANCE! Natural disaster hits, and that ALWAYS means there’s work to be done. My skin is extremely sensitive to different allergens, and I can’t just thrust my hands into any old pile of rubbage completely confident that I won’t be swollen & itchy & rashy quickly thereafter. So, work gloves’ make that a lot better! =) Thanks!

The most efficient item in the pack is the first aid kit. It has everything you could possibly need. We are going to have to take care of ourselves especially in rural areas. What a great kit.
July 24th, 2009 at 4:08 AM
My first choice would be water. You can never have too much water.
July 24th, 2009 at 4:10 AM
1st choice was water. The second would be the flashlight. I would never want to be in the dark someplace unfamiliar. That would save my sanity. I think I would die of fright.
July 24th, 2009 at 4:12 AM
1st was water, 2nd flashlight and my third is a tie between toilet paper and the radio. Hmmmmm still a tie….
July 24th, 2009 at 6:01 AM
This would be a great addition to our emergency supplies given we live in hurricane country. The water is definitely the most important given the heat here. The radio is a close second
July 24th, 2009 at 8:08 AM
Definitely the toilet paper.
July 24th, 2009 at 8:13 AM
Water is the most important, but each item in the 72-hr kit would be very useful in an emergency.

I have been trying to get a 72 hour kit together, unsuccessfully! I am so overwhelmed! This would be fantastic!!!
July 24th, 2009 at 9:31 AM
I think the #2 most important things are feminine products. Don’t get me wrong, I would love toilet paper, but there is just something about it, I gotta have it!!!
July 24th, 2009 at 9:39 AM
WATER for sure!!!!
