From the time of our company’s founding, word of mouth has been one of our greatest advertising tools.  Our reputation was built on customers sharing their opinions of Shelf Reliance with anyone who’d listen. The ease and reliability of Shelf Reliance products have had people talking to their neighbors, family members, and co-workers for years now, and at some point along the way, customers began asking how they could sell and distribute the products for themselves. After months of planning, testing, and experimenting, Shelf Reliance has come up with the perfect answer. I introduce to you …

Many of you have visited the Shelf Reliance YouTube channel and seen our own Natalie Riley demonstrating just how useful our line of THRIVE Foods can be in your kitchen. Natalie’s shown us everything from stir fry to pancakes and cookies, and I think her latest addition might just be her best.

In this video, we’re introduced to a simple yet classy recipe that will wow both family and guests. Natalie is joined in the kitchen by her mom to make both the pasta and the ravioli filling from scratch! Top with some homemade or store-bought Italian sauce and some Parmesan cheese shavings, and you have a beautiful meal before you. Take some pointers from our chef and enjoy!

There’s something so refreshing about starting a new month. I’m not sure if it’s the satisfaction of ripping another page off of the calendar or of starting out your dates with a “9″ instead of an “8,” but whatever it is, I love knowing that the old month is over and that there’s a new chance to be organized and productive. As September begins, consider taking FEMA’s challenge for National Preparedness Month:

Prepare. Plan. Stay Informed.

npm09 logo5 Whats New: National Preparedness MonthIn honor of National Preparedness month, many of September’s blog posts will focus on special preparedness issues, such as how to organize a disaster drill in your neighborhood or community, the special preparedness needs of seniors and young children, and meals you can make in less-than-ideal circumstances.

The information at www.ready.gov is very helpful, not to mention well-organized. You can find guidelines that will help you to emergency-proof your business, prepare your kids, and form a thorough response plan. Watch instructional videos or browse through the articles. A few well-spent hours on this website during the month of September will save you a lot of worry and stress in the event of a disaster.

Have you heard much about National Preparedness Month in your area? Tell us what your community is doing to prepare in a comment below, or just leave your thoughts and suggestions for other readers. Check back often or subscribe to the Shelf Reliance blog for great preparedness information all month long!

In my time at Shelf Reliance, I’ve heard about so many new ideas, new programs, new developments and products. This is not a company that rests on previous success; we’re always out for improvement. Today’s addition to our product line is just the latest example.

The Front Shelf

The new Front Shelf from Shelf Reliance attaches to large rows on our Harvest systems, and it’s meant to hold #10 cans that have been opened and only partially used. This means that your opened cans have an actual place to be, without taking up lots of space in your kitchen cupboards. You can get a single shelf or a pack of four, which would equip an entire Harvest 72″ #10 system. These shelves are sturdy, convenient, and easy to assemble. For those of you who own a Harvest or plan on having one in the future, consider adding this item to your shopping cart! The front shelves are currently on sale for 25% off, making now a great time to buy. Click on over to get a better look at the single Front Shelf, as well as the 4-Pack. They’ll make your food storage rotation even easier and more flexible. Enjoy!

A new week is underway, and at this busy time of year, the weekends keep looking better and better! It seems that all of us have weeks full of big projects and stresses, and it’s high time we talked about something that’s a bit more lighthearted. What is this special something? It’s a tool that many of you already know and love: the phenomenon known as Twitter. For those who are confused about it, I’d love to give a brief introduction to this website – Twitter 101, if you will – and tell you how following Shelf Reliance on Twitter can give you more access to the deals and insider information that you just can’t get enough of. Keep reading to see what I mean.

Here’s the latest stuff that’s sure to please from shelfreliance.com! We have some new favorites and old classics to share today, so let’s get to it!

go towel 2 285x300 Whats New: Some Things Old, Some Things NewGo! Towels (Pre-Moistened, 100% Cotton Washcloths)

One of my supervisors asked me to give these new towels a try and write a product description about them. I was perfectly happy to do it, of course, but I have to say that I was really surprised at how much I liked them! I guess I was expecting a baby wipe or something of that nature – something that would feel sticky, flimsy, and totally disposable. Of course, it says right on the package that the washcloths are made from cotton, so I guess I should have known better. As it turns out, the Go! Towels are made of sturdy cloth that you can wash and reuse over and over again. They also have a real lemon scent, which is actually anti-microbial and insect-repellent. I really enjoy this product, and I plan on using the towels on car trips and hot days in the garden. I’m sure they’d be great for parents trying to clean up their kids’ hands and faces, as well as for runners or outdoor enthusiasts who want a little extra refreshment during a long trek. … and cheesy smiles, apparently.

I came to the Shelf Reliance team a few weeks ago, bright-eyed and ready for anything! Since then, my eyes have become even brighter and wider as I’ve learned how much there is to discover in this world of food storage, emergency preparedness, and self-reliance.

I want this blog to be a source of solid information and great ideas that will make your life a little easier. I want to include things that will make you laugh, make you improve, or make you feel pleased with all you’ve accomplished. And I’ll let you in on a little secret: I want to learn stuff, too! There’s a lot to soak in, and I’m ready to start. I sincerely hope that you’ll join me, wherever you’re at in the process.

We’ve got giveaways, guest posts, and Q&A sessions in the works, so there should be something for everyone. And, hey, if you’ve got something to add or suggest, leave a comment!  I’ll do whatever it takes to turn this blog into something that’s helpful, fun, and undebatably awesome. Your input will be much appreciated.

Anyhoo, it’s a pleasure to meet you, and I look forward to seeing you again.
