What is freeze drying?
THRIVE freeze-dried products are flash frozen, sublimated, and packaged to remove as much water as possible, all without sacrificing quality or nutritional value. These foods last longer and are healthier than foods that are simply dehydrated. Though both processes remove significant amounts of water from perishable food items, the speed of freeze drying locks in existing tastes and nutrients that would be lost during dehydration. Additionally, since freeze drying removes a greater percentage of water than dehydration, the shelf life of freeze-dried food increases by several years.

Storage Conditions

Temperature: Storing THRIVE at a high temperature can significantly increase the speed that calories and vitamins will degrade over time. In the correct storage container, low-moisture foods such as THRIVE can be stored at room temperature or cooler (75 degrees Fahrenheit or lower) and remain nutritious and edible for years. Our stated shelf life assumes that the product will be stored in optimal conditions.

Humidity: The effects of humidity on a closed can are caused by heat and very similar to the effects of high temperature (see above). High humidity can corrode the cans and in some cases even cause the cans to leak. Areas with high humidity can reduce the opened shelf life of the product. As humidity varies with location please use your own discretion to prevent possible sickness from eating spoiled food.

Damaged Container: Minor dents in the center of the can are usually just a cosmetic issue. However, a can that has been dented near or on a seam can have a compromised air-tight seal and allow oxygen to enter the can. If this is the case we recommend using the dented can within the specified opened shelf life, rather than closed.

The best way to maintain the highest quality of your THRIVE products is to take care of them. If you intend on storing your food for the sealed shelf life, store the cans in a place that is not open to elements such as water, light, and air. Take care of it. Don't expose it unnecessarily to the elements. Also, be sure to keep the temperature and humidity low and even. Under these proper storing situations your THRIVE will maintain its delicious taste, natural coloring, and proper nutrients.

  1. Thrive Cream of Mushroom Soup - THE BEST!

Below is the email my husband sent out to all our adult children:
    ----------
I had to work from home because I was sick today but Mary made the best Cream of Mushroom Soup I have ever had. It was just what the Doctor ordered and she made it from scratch making her own roux and using almost all Thrive ingredients and a recipe from Chef Todd from Shelf Reliance.

  2. Mushrooms

Everytime I bought fresh mushrooms they were slimy before I could use them all. These are delicious & SO CONVENIENT to always have them ready anytime I want to make something with them!

  4. Awesome and convenient

These are great. We use them in our strogranoff, and we also just munch on these straight out of the can. I love how they have a long shelf life so they wont go bad, and they taste great!!! Love these and cant say enough good stuff about them.

  5. Wow!!

Got my first order of SR last Friday, and finally decided to try some of it out.
These mushrooms are first rate, and I love my shrooms. Will be buying more for sure, as I now have a great replacement for fresh.
Used these today on a baked potato, along with the Taco TVP. Both worked out great.

  6. Oh wow!!

Just tried these today, and plan on buying more. I totally agree with those who say why buy fresh? I love my shrooms, and these are great.

  7. Awesome!

Love these! I decided to get them to add to make mushroom soup in the winter, since fresh mushrooms are so expensive and they always seem to go bad so quickly. I've also used them in omelets and other recipes but honestly, they taste good straight out of the can. Intense mushroom flavor and they rehydrate very well.

  8. Why buy fresh ever again?!

I'm notorious for wasted money in bad food going down the disposal. I've found within 1 #10 can of these mushrooms, that plight has disappeared forever!! We've loved them in every dish made, and because Campbell's cream soups have MSG, their Cream of Mushroom is a health hazzard to me, so I found a recipe for Le Madeleine's Cream of Mushroom online and even used plain yogurt in place of half and half - using my Thrive freeze dried mushrooms - WAHLAH! My 4 grandchildren (15 mo., 4, 7, & 9) were here for dinner. I just told them we were having gravy and rice. It had started out to be beef stroganoff, but the beef never made it in the pot. So we had simple stroganoff - the kids loved it and wanted 2nds!!! Not one tiny mushroom wasted!!! I'm a happy camper!!!

  9. Sauteed Mushrooms

After rehydration of about two cups of mushrooms I sauteed them up in about a cup of butter with garlic. We used them on steaks I had made in the broiler. I do this often and is a big hit. I noticed a slight difference in taste compared to fresh mushrooms, but the rest of the family did not. It took the work out of getting mushrooms ready. That's the part I liked. Now I have mushrooms when I need them.

  10. Very convenient for 1 person households

I just received the mushroom pieces as part of my Q order. These rehydrate really quick and I can see myself using them in omelets, soups, rice dishes, and on pizzas and burgers. These, as well as all of the other Thrive food items, are very convenient for single people who are only cooking for themselves. There have been many times that I have bought fresh mushrooms and not been able to use all of them before they went bad. With the Thrive mushroom pieces, I no longer have this problem.

  11. Money Saver

I can't even begin to add up the cost of "fresh" mushrooms I have thrown out because they went bad because we didn't use them in time.
I LOVE these mushrooms - I use them on burgers, philly cheese steaks, and everything else. The convenience is amazing - Just fill up a bowl with hot water and throw in a handful of mushrooms. A couple of minutes, strain - perfect mushrooms! I don't ever see myself buying mushrooms from the grocery store again.

  13. High quality, but too "mushroomy" for me

I like just about every ShelfReliance product I've tried, but I'm not a fan of these mushrooms. The quality and comvenience seem great. However, the flavor is far too distinct for my taste.

We often use the standard white mushrooms that are sold fresh, both whole and in pieces at Safeway and most gorcery stores. The flavor of those is very very mild. These mushrooms instead have a strong mushroomy taste that some may like, but I do not. I will try using one-half or one-third what is called for in recipes, but I won't likely buy again.

Once again, there is nothing wrong with the quality of the product. I just don't like the taste.

  14. Fantastic!

We love these mushrooms! Have used them in spaghetti, beef stroganoff and sauteed them for steaks and hamburgers. Delicious! Will be adding more to my food storage.

  15. these are out of this world!

Have you ever grilled up a burger and thought it would be better with sauted mushrooms, go the frig and find that your mushrooms don't look as good as they did when you bought them. SR has solved this problem, rehydration takes a few minutes, drain and saute, they taste just like the fresh. Try it you'll be sold on these as a standard for your everyday food storage cooking.

  16. A must have :)

So this is my newest favorite!!! Holy cow...we used these today in omelettes. I just put a handful of the FD broccoli, mixed peppers, FD onions, FD mushrooms, and FD spinach in hot tap water, all together, for a few minutes. Then added this to our eggs, w/ a little handful of the ham TVP...our family of 9 was in absolute heaven. These mushrooms taste better than fresh...and a 25 yr shelf life= no more rotten mushrooms!!! Fantastic!
