THRIVE Ham TVP is a low-fat and vegetarian alternative to real ham. Scramble it up with eggs or add it to a mixed summertime salad. A #10 can contains 44 servings and has a shelf life of up to 10 years. Enjoy the ease and safety of THRIVE Ham TVP, which is free from the dangers of E. coli, salmonella, and other contaminants that can be present in real meat.

These small, crumbly bits will be versatile and shelf-stable for up to a year after opening, and your family will love the authentic taste and texture. Supplement your next ham-based dish with a little THRIVE Ham TVP, and see what we're talking about!

What is TVP?
TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) is an excellent protein source that is easy to store and use. TVP is made from soy flour that has had the soy oil extracted. It is cooked under pressure, then extruded and dried. TVP is high in fiber and lower in fat than authentic meat, making it ideal for food storage and everyday use. Because TVP is not made from meat, it does not run the same contamination risk from bacteria such as E. coli and salmonella. TVP is soy based, Kosher certified, and perfect for those on a vegetarian diet.

Directions:

Soak Ham TVP in hot water for 5-10 minutes. Add the ham into your recipe to partially or completely replace ham.

Storage Conditions

Temperature: Storing THRIVE at a high temperature can significantly increase the speed that calories and vitamins will degrade over time. In the correct storage container, low-moisture foods such as THRIVE can be stored at room temperature or cooler (75 degrees Fahrenheit or lower) and remain nutritious and edible for years. Our stated shelf life assumes that the product will be stored in optimal conditions.

Humidity: The affects of humidity on a closed can are caused by heat and very similar to the affects of high temperature (see above). High humidity can corrode the cans and in some cases even cause the cans to leak. Areas with high humidity can reduce the opened shelf life of the product. As humidity varies with location please use your own discretion to prevent possible sickness from eating spoiled food.

Damaged Container: Minor dents in the center of the can are usually just a cosmetic issue. However, a can that has been dented near or on a seam can have a compromised air-tight seal and allow oxygen to enter the can. If this is the case we recommend using the dented can within the specified opened shelf life, rather than closed.

The best way to maintain the highest quality of your THRIVE products is to take care of them. If you intend on storing your food for the sealed shelf life, store the cans in a place that is not open to elements such as water, light, and air. Take care of it. Don't expose it unnecessarily to the elements. Also, be sure to keep the temperature and humidity low and even. Under these proper storing situations your THRIVE will maintain its delicious taste, natural coloring, and proper nutrients.

  1. Fabulous!

These are better than Bacon Bits! Will order a large can to keep on hand for everything -- salads, egg scrambles, snacking out of hand, etc. Would also be fabulous in a Chex-type snack mix with some Parmesan cheese. I took them around to my co-workers to sample and everyone loves them!

  2. Surprisingly fantastic

I have to admit I was really scared of TVP, but it is incredible as ham bits. It truly is better than Baco-s. I mixed some in that hadn't been hydrated with some scrambled Shelf Reliance eggs, added a pinch of mayo and some seasonings and had an awesome lunch of "bacon and egg salad" sandwiches. The kids love them and try to steal them out of the can. I agree, I think they are better not hydrated, but we used them hydrated in a stir fry dish and they were just fine. My husband didn't even notice.

  3. perfect in salads

These are great sprinkled over green salad or mixed in pasta salad -- better than bacon-bits. Has a nice salty, smoked flavor. I reconstituted once to try in scrambled eggs, but I didn't like the texture.

  4. Great

Taste is great. Simple to re-hydrate. I used it in some red eye gravy and some in my cheese grits. Both times it was great.
