Rehydration Instructions:
Add 1 cup potato dices to 4 cups hot water. Let potatoes soak for 3-5 minutes until tender. Drain water. Add 3 minutes soak time when rehydrating in cold water.

What is freeze drying?
THRIVE freeze-dried products are flash frozen, sublimated, and packaged to remove as much water as possible, all without sacrificing quality or nutritional value. These foods last longer and are healthier than foods that are simply dehydrated. Though both processes remove significant amounts of water from perishable food items, the speed of freeze drying locks in existing tastes and nutrients that would be lost during dehydration. Additionally, since freeze drying removes a greater percentage of water than dehydration, the shelf life of freeze-dried food increases by several years.

Storage Conditions
Temperature: Storing THRIVE at a high temperature can significantly increase the speed that calories and vitamins will degrade over time. In the correct storage container, low-moisture foods such as THRIVE can be stored at room temperature or cooler (75 degrees Fahrenheit or lower) and remain nutritious and edible for years. Our stated shelf life assumes that the product will be stored in optimal conditions.
Humidity: The effects of humidity on a closed can are caused by heat and very similar to the effects of high temperature (see above). High humidity can corrode the cans and in some cases even cause the cans to leak. Areas with high humidity can reduce the opened shelf life of the product. As humidity varies with location please use your own discretion to prevent possible sickness from eating spoiled food.
Damaged Container: Minor dents in the center of the can are usually just a cosmetic issue. However, a can that has been dented near or on a seam can have a compromised air-tight seal and allow oxygen to enter the can. If this is the case we recommend using the dented can within the specified opened shelf life, rather than closed.
The best way to maintain the highest quality of your THRIVE products is to take care of them. If you intend on storing your food for the sealed shelf life, store the cans in a place that is not open to elements such as water, light, and air. Take care of it. Don't expose it unnecessarily to the elements. Also, be sure to keep the temperature and humidity low and even. Under these proper storing situations your THRIVE will maintain its delicious taste, natural coloring, and proper nutrients.

Great Taste, A Bit Too Soft
I made hash browns and eggs this morning for breakfast. They rehydrated very easily and I drained as much water from them as I could before putting them into the pan. They didn't fry too well (perhaps too little oil on my part?) and they mashed too easily in the pan. So we ended up having mashed browns and eggs for breakfast, but it was actually great. I remain a big big Shelf Reliance fan.

Great for Those with disabilities
I bought these to try in a Turkey Chowder recipe and they cooked up nicely. Great flavor and cut my preparation time half because I didn't have to struggle to cut real potatos. I have a disability which makes chopping up food very difficult which is why we usually don't keep normal potatos on hand. This will become a part of my normal rotation.

Very convienent
I bought these to try them out in a Turkey Chowder recipe. I typically don't have potatos on hand because we don't usually eat them in time before they go bad because they often get placed in a dark place and forgotten about. I actually just added them to my soup and they cooked up nicely adding that great consistancy. I am complety sold. FD food so far has been very beneficial to me since I have issues with my hands that makes chopping up food difficult.

Pleasantly surprised, made a great breakfast! pros and cons
We rehydrated the potato dices and browned in olive oil with a little salt and pepper. It was tasty all alone ...Made great fixins for an easy side dish to breakfast/brunch. I did not expect it to be so fresh tasting, and was so easy to prepare.
Now that I see what this product is like I can think of many uses for it. (not just easy hash-browns while Camping!) A full high calorie meal when mixed with scrambled eggs veggies and even a tastier treat when topped with cheddar cheese, salsa and sour cream. I think it might make a great potato salad and will be trying that soon. Fun to experiment with but in reality I will use my own home-grown potatoes for my every day cooking or fresh from the store when the garden is not producing and will save this potato product in unopened can for emergency storage. For the potatoes, fresh is a more economical choice for our family over this product, However, it is very nice and convenient not to peel and dice and cook for a long time to make the hash-browns of equal quality! I will be tempted to dig into the emergency supply.
I do plan to experiment with sealing up the remainder of an opened can in a glass canning Jar using a vacuum sealer.
For emergency food storage back up, I am so pleased . Now that I have tested some of the other Thrive products, having this product on hand for emergency storage gives me peace of mind it will not go to waste if not needed for emergency food.
cons: well you just cant mix it up and eat it in case of emergency, you need plenty of water on hand, need a heat source, would not want to eat potatoes without cooking because it is consistency of small chopped up raw potatoes once rehydrated. But they don't need to be cooked very long and that is a big plus. Also The potato bits at bottom of can might be too small to someone's liking, but no problems if used for mashed potatoes or a thickener for chowder or something else.
Also says it is good for 25 years if sealed and 2 years if opened. Keeping storage of 60 degrees is not easy for many families. So storing this product at 70 degrees might cut my own shelf life of the product down in half I think.
"1/4 cup serving" and 41 servings per can (35 calories each serving). This is small portion for a big appetite; 1/2-3/4 cups is closer to an actual portion you might make for yourself, unless dieting. So actual servings per can might vary depending on your own personal portion and calorie needs!
I am giving this potato product a 5 star because it is an ideal product for storage, preparation convenience and best of all.....taste. thank you!Quality
