What is TVP?
TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) is an excellent protein source that is easy to store and use. TVP is made from soy flour that has had the soy oil extracted. It is cooked under pressure, then extruded and dried. TVP is high in fiber and low in fat, making it ideal for food storage and everyday use. Because TVP is not made from meat, it does not run the same contamination risk from bacteria such as E. Coli and Salmonella. TVP is soy based and perfect for those on a vegetarian diet.
Directions:
Use a ratio of 2 parts water (or other liquid) to 1 part TVP. Bring water to a boil, then add TVP. Simmer for 2 minutes and remove from heat. Drain if necessary.

Storage Conditions
Temperature: Storing THRIVE at a high temperature can significantly increase the speed that calories and vitamins will degrade over time. In the correct storage container, low-moisture foods such as THRIVE can be stored at room temperature or cooler (75 degrees Fahrenheit or lower) and remain nutritious and edible for years. Our stated shelf life assumes that the product will be stored in optimal conditions.
Humidity: The effects of humidity on a closed can are caused by heat and very similar to the effects of high temperature (see above). High humidity can corrode the cans and in some cases even cause the cans to leak. Areas with high humidity can reduce the opened shelf life of the product. As humidity varies with location please use your own discretion to prevent possible sickness from eating spoiled food.
Damaged Container: Minor dents in the center of the can are usually just a cosmetic issue. However, a can that has been dented near or on a seam can have a compromised air-tight seal and allow oxygen to enter the can. If this is the case we recommend using the dented can within the specified opened shelf life, rather than closed.
The best way to maintain the highest quality of your THRIVE products is to take care of them. If you intend on storing your food for the sealed shelf life, store the cans in a place that is not open to elements such as water, light, and air. Take care of it. Don't expose it unnecessarily to the elements. Also, be sure to keep the temperature and humidity low and even. Under these proper storing situations your THRIVE will maintain its delicious taste, natural coloring, and proper nutrients.

Excellent on it's own, even better mixed!
This was the first time I've ever used any kind of TVP and I am so impressed! It tastes great and the texture is good. I like it on it's own, but I love mixing it half and half with ground beef. You can't tell the TVP from the beef and it makes the beef go so much further! A great product.

This is really good!
I went ahead and opened my can of Taco TVP when we were having taco salads last week, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! It was really good!
My husband used the leftovers for lunch the next day, mixing it with leftover white rice and corn and he said it really stuck with him. I'll be getting the #10 cans of this!Quality

Great food item for 1-person household
This is a great, must-have item for someone who cooks for one-person (themselves). I am not vegetarian, but like the fact I can use this Taco TVP anytime I want to make a couple of tacos, a quesadilla, or burrito for myself. I do not need to go through the hassle of browning a pound of beef for an entire recipe when I only need enough for one. It is a tasty alternative to ground beef.

Amazing!
I was VERY skeptical to try this. I remember when I was young and TVP tasted like dog food. No kidding, dog food. It looked like it too. So I went in with a very closed mind expecting to hate it BUT I love it!! It looks just like small pieces of ground beef and tastes like taco meat. I TRY to find the flaws and still end up loving it. The kids think it tastes great too.

Very good, but ...
I rehydrated the taco tvp as directed using the 2-1 ratio and then added a can of prepared refried beans to it - Not bad! In my opinion, I think the flavor is tasty, leaves room for adding extra spices if you want & the texture is pretty good, but I will only use this mixed with something or to stretch my ground beef budget. Makes great soft taco filling.

Surprisingly good!
I was a little leery of trying any TVP products. It just didn't appeal to me. But, I purchased a pantry can of Taco TVP and mixed it 1:1 with FD Ground Beef. It was surprisingly good! We will definitely use it in all of our mexican food dishes. It's a fantastic way to stretch our FD ground beef, or fresh ground beef for that matter.
Shelf Reliance is such a wonderful product line! Thanks so much for helping us not only build upon our food storage, but feed our families healthy and tasty meals!Quality

worth having in your food storage
I am a very picky girl! That said, the first Thrive product I've tried for myself is this Taco TVP. First I nibbled on a few of the dry crumbles, they were tasty. I then moved on and reconstituted as directed, it needed a bit more flavor boosting, some garlic, onion, chili powder, and cumin did the trick. Burrito's are a standby meal in my house, so I used the TVP as the main filling, added fresh grated cheese, chopped tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and guacamole, they were pretty decent. If I were eating vegetarian I'd say they were excellent. My only really disappointment was the texture was a little soft, but I'd happily eat these, even my pickier teenage daughter declared them good.
I think the value is great, the shelf life sounds remarkable, and the ease of making on a scale from a no brainer to culinary degree required, was a solid NO BRAINER! Thanks guys!Quality

Good stuff
TVP is better than I thought it might be. I made a layered dip with refried beans, Taco TVP, FD corn, and FD cheese, all rehydrated and then warmed. The family loved it!
It is a finer crumble than we were used to, so softer to chew, but great taste in many dishes!Quality

Great for seniors
I usually only need 4 Tacos for my husband and I for dinner. These TVP products are great. I can mix up just a little, or a lot when the grandkinds come over. No leftovers, ever!! The price is great for our limited budget.

Love the flavor!
I add this to ground beef for taco meat, burritos or to use over nachos. The flavor is just the right spiciness for my family! Everyone in our home loves it -- they can't even tell it isn't ground beef!

pretty good
my family really liked it since it reminds them of their favorite 'fast food' place. I found it a bit salty for my tastes...I just add little more water. I love how quick it is to make.

Not bad!
I re-hydrated this along with a few of the bell peppers in some beef bouillon and mixed it in with some Velveta and elbow noodles to make some Chili Mac. Pretty good! Its way better than M.R.E.s and is easy to cook. The taste is sort of like that of a well known taco (bell) chain meat. The texture is a little softer than I'm use to, but the taste makes up for it. I can't wait to make tacos with it.
Bottom line....its worth putting a few cans away for a rainy day.Quality
